How we chose these moisturizers
We used all four products in our original review. In July 2026, we checked the formulas listed on each brand's US website.
Lubriderm's fragrance-free Daily Moisture Lotion is no longer the vitamin B5 formula we reviewed. The current product contains Pro-Ceramide, shea butter, and glycerin. Because we have not tested this version, it does not have a rating yet.

What a fragrance-free label tells you
“Fragrance-free” and “unscented” are not interchangeable. The FDA explains that “unscented” can include masking fragrance ingredients, while a product labeled fragrance-free should not contain ingredients added specifically to create a scent. The FDA also notes that there is no single federal definition for claims such as fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, or “for sensitive skin,” so the ingredient list still matters.
We check the product claim and the available ingredient information together. A fragrance-free label does not mean that a product cannot irritate you or trigger an individual allergy. Check the package you receive, especially if you have a diagnosed allergy. Formulas can differ by market and may change before this article is updated. Should you choose a lotion or a cream?
Lotions are usually easier to spread and often feel lighter, making them convenient for everyday use over larger areas. Creams are richer. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a fragrance-free cream or ointment for very dry skin, and suggests applying moisturizer while skin is still damp.

Detailed reviews
Vanicream Moisturizing Lotion: best overall
We preferred Vanicream when testing these lighter lotions. It spread easily, absorbed quickly, and did not feel greasy. Its current published ingredient list is also relatively short.
The current Vanicream product page lists ten ingredients and notes that the lotion contains no botanical extracts, essential oils, fragrance, or masking fragrance. Vanicream describes it as non-comedogenic and suitable for face and body. The product also appears in the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance directory.
Short formula and light feel
- The current manufacturer page provides a concise ingredient list and explicitly addresses both fragrance and masking fragrance.
- Its lighter texture makes it more convenient than a heavy cream for frequent face, hand, and body use.
- Petrolatum gives it more occlusive support than many very light lotions.
Limitations
The formula contains propylene glycol. If that is one of your known triggers, skip it. The National Eczema Association also reminds users that its seal is not a guarantee against an individual reaction.
Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion Fragrance-Free: best lightweight option
Original formula: ★★★★★ (5/5). Current formula: Not yet rated.
The bottle we tested absorbed quickly without feeling heavy or greasy. The image and rating refer to the older vitamin B5 formula. We have not tested the new version, so we cannot apply the old rating to it.
Lubriderm's current US product page describes a lightweight, fragrance-free lotion with Pro-Ceramide, shea butter, and glycerin. The page lists it as suitable for face and body and free of parabens, phthalates, dyes, and fragrance. Because that is a material formula change, we are not presenting the old performance notes as a new 2026 test.
What the current product offers
- Lubriderm describes the current product as fragrance-free, lightweight, and suitable for face and body.
- Multiple bottle sizes make it practical for travel or regular body use.
Limitations
The new formula remains unrated because we have not tested it. Check that the Amazon listing and the package you receive match the Pro-Ceramide, shea butter, and glycerin version.
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion: best lightweight ceramide lotion
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is lighter than the CeraVe cream and contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid. In our original test, it absorbed quickly and was easy to spread over a larger area.
The current CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion page describes it as free of added fragrance, non-comedogenic, and intended for normal-to-dry skin. Its current US ingredient list includes ceramides NP, AP, and EOP plus hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid. CeraVe also states that formulas are updated regularly, which is another reason to check the product package.
Light texture with ceramides
- It combines a lighter lotion texture with three ceramides and hyaluronic acid.
- The manufacturer identifies it as oil-free, non-comedogenic, suitable for face and body, and accepted by the National Eczema Association.
Limitations
Its ingredient list is longer than Vanicream's, which matters if you avoid a particular preservative or emulsifier. It may also be too light for very dry skin.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: best richer option
This is the heaviest product in the group and the only cream in the comparison. It contains petrolatum and dimethicone, and CeraVe labels it for both face and body.
The current CeraVe Moisturizing Cream page describes a fragrance-free, non-comedogenic face-and-body cream with three ceramides, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, and petrolatum. The current product also carries the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.
Richest texture of the four
- Petrolatum and dimethicone make it the most occlusive choice in this comparison.
- It has a richer texture than the lotions without being an ointment.
Limitations
It will feel heavier than the three lotions above. If you want something quick to spread over your whole body before getting dressed, Vanicream or CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion may be more convenient.
Our verdict
Vanicream is our default recommendation for a light everyday lotion with a short published ingredient list. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is another light option with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Choose CeraVe Moisturizing Cream if you need something richer.
None of these is universally “best” for every allergy or skin condition. If you are managing eczema, contact dermatitis, or a known ingredient allergy, use your clinician's advice and the current product label rather than relying on a general recommendation.
